Mike Makes Me Laugh

Mike and I did a drive-through at Oberweiss the other day. I ordered our two chocolate milkshakes as Addy was SCREAMING in the back seat. After ordering and paying, the girl at the window asked if I’d like a sample of their vanilla milk. I said, “Sure, why not?!” I mean, it is something for free, right? So she disappears from the window, for more than just a couple of minutes. At about minute three, Mike says, “What….are they killing the cow in there?” (As if cows need to be slaughtered to provide the milk…lol…)

And for those wondering, we never did get our vanilla milk free sample. She returned to the window with our five dollar chocolate shakes at about minute six. It took me less time than that to suck it down =)

A Fall Down the Stairs

Joshua gave me the scare of all scares today. He and Addy woke up from their naps at about the same time this afternoon. I went upstairs, grabbed Addy from our room, and took her to Joshua’s room. At about the same time Mike came home, so I laid Addy down in his crib and changed his diaper first. When I got done with his diaper I told him, “Go get Daddy!” He was excited to do just that, so he ran out of his room yelling for Mike, who was still downstairs unpacking from his day at work. Well, I haven’t been extremely careful about closing the gate at the top of the stairs, as Joshua’s been pretty good about going up and down the stairs on his own. This time, however, he didn’t fare so well. Just before I went to grab Addy to change her, I heard a “boom boom boom” and my heart sank. Joshua fell down the stairs. Mike and I both said, “Oh, God” at the same time and ran to see how bad the situation was. Joshua was laying at the bottom of the stairs, looking more scared than anything. Mike scooped him up and we both assessed the damage. Joshua started crying, but not a hurt cry, just a “I’m really scared” cry. Poor kid. It didn’t look like he had hurt anything at all, but he was shaking. Mike continued to console him for a few minutes, at which point I took over, more for myself than for Joshua. All sensing showed that he really was not hurt anywhere, but he had quite a fright.

Mike and I both feel so bad. I know I should have closed the gate. But not only did I not close the gate, but I told him to go get Mike. I should have taken him down myself. Mike wishes he would have come up for Joshua before unpacking his things. Shoulda woulda coulda….he fell. Thank goodness it wasn’t worse…

Little Boy Toots, and Other Things That Made Me Laugh Today

I love hearing Joshua get into his giddy giggle, and then the subsequent “hic-burps” that inevitably get him soon after the giggles start. Addison’s giggle is a bit more girly, even at 4 months old, but is no less genuine or enjoyable for me to hear.

Today was an icky day outside. It was cloudy when we woke and the sun never came out all day. Rain fell on and off. Usually this would mean a crabby mommy and kids all day, but we managed to have some laughs.

Joshua got into a giggle fit during lunch over something that I can’t remember. What really kept him going, though, were the big belches he’d release while laughing and hiccuping at the same time. The burps sounded almost painfully large, but he thought he was hilarious. Then during his bath (warning for TMI!) I was washing his bum-crack and he thought it would be very funny to push while I was doing that. Let me tell you, the sound his toot made against the wet washcloth was enough to throw us both into hysterics.

Addison laughs for different reasons at her age. Sometimes I can simply just look at her and smile and she starts giggling. She must think I look very funny. I try not to take it personally. I can also get her to giggle by nuzzling her belly at the base of her ribs; this is her super-tickly spot. She has my tickle genes; she is super-tickly almost everywhere, including her thighs, feet, belly, and neck. There is nothing cuter than a little baby’s gummy grin and belly giggle!

So today didn’t hold any great adventure or excitement for us, but it was a good day in my eyes, filled with laughter, giggles, smiles, burps, and toots.

Memorable Bites #2

It’s been another couple of fun-filled weeks, with nicer weather and kids that have, in general, been sleeping better.

Addy seems to have broken out of her catnap phase fairly quickly, thank goodness. She’s still waking to eat a couple times in the middle of the night, but usually sleeps ’til 6:30 or 7:30 in the morning and will almost always go right back to sleep within an hour after getting up in the morning. This works out great for me, as Joshua has continued to sleep in, so I get an extra hour or two of sleep in the morning when Addy goes back to sleep.

We’ve taken several walks now that the nicer weather has intermittently arrived. Addy just sleeps, and Joshua peeks all over. He notices everything. Airplanes, ducks, geese, trees, soccerballs, puppies…EVERYTHING. The whole trip is, “Mommy! Ball?….Mommy! Airplane?…Mommy! Woof?…” So cute =)

When we’re inside, he’s still got to have Elmo on every minute, and he can play with his Matchbox cars for hours!

Addy is just the cutest little sweetheart. She is so smily all the time, and has the best giggle when she gets tickled or just thinks I’m funny. She LOVES her big brother lately, and he loves her. Anytime she’s sitting on my lap she is watching him or looking for him, and she loves when he gives her hugs and kisses. She just bats her eyelashes and smiles. Again, SO cute! Joshua’s been big on holding her and giving her hugs, which I love. I’m going to enjoy the time that they get along with eachother while I can!

In other news, I continue to love my new computer, of course. It’s pretty much all that I do when kids are asleep. I’ve started to make some short videos of me and the kids to post to facebook so that some of the people that haven’t met Addy or seen Josh in a while can see what they’re like.

Mike’s been super stressed out at work and I feel bad for him. That’s all that I’ll say on that subject since this is public.

Other small items – I continue to watch the stock market and I’m not sure what to think. Much of my family thinks doomsday is coming, where the dollar becomes valueless, but I have chosen a more optimistic stance. I just don’t believe that the U.S. is so weak or stupid that that situation could become a reality. This isn’t the early 1900′s anymore and we have a lot of data on this similar situation over time. We have learned from it, and while some individuals took advantage of inappropriate amounts of credit offered by the banks, there is a reason why we have leaders in our country and I do believe they’ll do their best to get us back on the right track. But really, we have no choice but to hope for that… Maybe people will now learn a simple reality – don’t spend money you don’t have!!! Duh…

As always, more to come!

Memorable Bites #1

Just a quick post as an excuse to continue to use my new computer, and to record some of the little tidbits of late that I want to place in my virtual memory.

1) My new computer, a 17″ MacBook Pro, finally arrived this week! It’s been a blast so far, but will continue to be alot of work to make this my one personal computer. I’m so anal. I want all my pics, videos, music, contacs, email, rss, calendar, etc. etc. all on this one computer. Then I’ll have to find a way to keep it strapped to me all the time.

2) A childhood friend’s precious little boy passed away. She and her husband had a premature (6 mos) baby early this past February, and they found he had a rare birth defect. He was doing as well as a baby born under 2 lbs could do, but passed away due to a bacterial infection earlier this week. I can’t even explain how my heart goes out to them. I never would have understood their pain until I had kids myself. I just don’t know how you go on after something like that. I can only pray that they have a complication-free pregnancy the next time around and that they are blessed with as many happy and healthy children as they desire. Raef is an angel…

3) Joshua continues to be the cutest little 2 year old. He is still loving his little Matchbox cars, but he’s also been very into his Elmo book (SO big!) and reading that and other books at night with Daddy at bedtime. He’s also been wanting us to put one of his soccabols up on his tee-pee, then he says “ready, set, dough!!!” and knocks it off the top of the tee-pee. I tried to catch it on video today, but he just wanted to peeky at the camcorder and I couldn’t get him to do the whole action again. But it is so cute!

That’s all I can fit in tonight. Addy just cried and I had to go feed her so I have about 30 minutes less to write than I thought I would. More later, with Addy highlights and more!
